Natural History Museum data are valuable to everyone from biologists and climate scientists to land managers and legislators to understand the threats, and pathways forward, to conserve and protect vulnerable ecosystems. Likewise, nature enthusiasts and others can learn about biodiversity and our natural heritage from the vast stores of information locked away in museum cabinets. However, making these data available is a monumental task with few resources available to do the work. The Notes From Nature platform engages the community to participate in biodiversity science by helping us capture museum specimen data. But much more can be done to harness the skills and enthusiasm of these dedicated individuals.
