The career ladder metaphor is rare in real life. Careers are complicated with twists and turns and zigs and zags. But, our accumulated experiences are what differentiate us and give us a package of skills that no one else possesses. I’ll share my own career story (and sometimes lack-of-career story) and how looking back can make some order and meaning out of the chaos. A mixture of saying yes to opportunities and just continuing to pull up a chair at the entomology table pays off over time. Everyone who wants to be a professional entomologist can be one with tenacity…and a lot of friends
