In the dynamic and complex field of entomology, where research and outreach intersect, maintaining a healthy work-life balance is often hard to achieve. However, this balance is crucial for achieving both personal well-being and professional success. ESA provides an opportunity to delve into the unique challenges faced by entomologists, particularly those engaged in Extension professions or students earning degrees. Drawing upon personal experiences and empirical evidence, this talk will explore effective strategies for navigating the delicate line between professional commitments and personal fulfillment. Stories of my time over the last two years as the CSU Extension entomologist on the rural western slope of Colorado will be shared. Attendees will gain insights into recognizing early signs of burnout and learn practical techniques for managing stress, self care and maintaining mental health.This talk will highlight the importance of mentorship and peer support, providing tips on how to build and sustain these vital connections. There are lifelong benefits to cultivating the resilience needed to thrive both personally and professionally in the entomological realm.
