Undergraduate Researcher Colorado State University Fort Collins, Colorado
As a land grand institution, Colorado State University strives to deliver an accessible and affordable education, especially in the agricultural sciences. For over 100 years, Colorado State University extension has also provided reliable, and importantly, researched-backed information, resources, and programming to support a diverse array of communities across Colorado. While extension offices and agents contribute greatly to this support network, individuals and laboratories also take on some of this responsibility. An open line of communication between extension agents, researchers, and growers is important for the success of Colorado agriculture. Additionally, there is an apparent need for young scientists to integrate themselves into this extension system. Certainly, PI encouragement to get involved, accessible field days, and relationships with growers and stakeholders among other things helps create the next generation of extension entomologists. Through our various projects with sugar beets, wheat and hemp, the Nachappa lab at Colorado State University prides itself on providing deliverables to growers and stakeholders and does well to cultivate scientists who are mindful of the important role extension plays in our agricultural regions.
