Museums are complicated buildings with a range of spaces both public and private servicing a variety of functions. Pest Management professionals who service these institutions play an important role in the visitor experience by providing a healthy, safe and pest-free encounter with the space and the collections on exhibit. When dealing with museum administrators, curators, conservators and collection managers, several aspects of pest management differ from pest management protocols from other businesses or industries. This presentation will go over those unique differences and this information should assist PMPs in landing and keeping museum pest management accounts. Areas of focus in the presentation will include; The significant risk posed by pests on museum objects, the unique set of pests that are common to museums, understanding the purpose and fears that drive museum professionals, health and safety in public spaces, working within high-security areas, avoiding accidental damage to museum collections, environmental considerations of the objects in storage or on display, and detailed record-keeping of pest activity
