Purdue University has had almost a century of commitment to the space of urban pest management, with almost nine decades of hosting an annual conference, and the Center for Urban and Industrial Pest Management (CUIPM) being in existence since 1989. These institutional commitments also represent long-term collaborative and synergistic relationships with multiple aspects of the pest management industry, ranging from individually owned pest management companies to medium- and large-size corporations, from basic to highly applied research, and, finally, ranging from educational engagement both in the continuing education space to graduate and undergraduate education. The urban pest management space remains highly dynamic, with evolving challenges and opportunities. The CUIPM engages the private sector through specific projects and activities and through a formal consultative council consisting of diverse actors across the urban pest management space. Here, we discuss these activities and opportunities for the future.
