D3154: Phylogenomic systematics of club-horned wasps (Hymenoptera: Sapygidae), an important parasitoid of managed bees

Sapygidae (Hymenoptera) is a small family (about 80 species) of parasitoid, stinging wasps. The family is well known for being parasites of bees, particularly managed bees of the family Magachalidae. Despite being found on all continents, except Australia and Antarctica, and being of significant agricultural importance to managed bees, very little is known about their systematics and taxonomy. In particular, there is no global phylogeny or comprehensive revision for the family, and for North America, the last taxonomic review of species was conducted by Kurzenko in 1996. Since this revision, the validity of many species and the placement of species into genera has been questioned. Here we use Ultraconserved Element (UCE) phylogenomic data to examine the phylogeny and systematics of Sapygidae globally and the relationships among and the taxonomic validity of North American species. The results will be used to inform focused taxonomic work on the North American species.
