Beetles are among the most diverse and ecologically significant insects, yet their diversity and vital roles in ecosystems are often underappreciated. This project helps to bridges the gap between scientific research and public engagement by collaborating with artists. The project begins with the digitization of the historic insect collection at Augustana College in Rock Island Illinois, in addition to conducting field surveys to assess regional beetle diversity. Concurrently, it uses art to raise awareness about local biodiversity. Beetle-themed murals and mobile laboratory outreach engage the local community, highlighting the ecological importance of beetles and the value of natural history collections. This innovative approach advances scholarly research while fostering a deeper connection between the community and the natural world, encouraging conservation through the intersection of art and science.
