A cornerstone of effective biological control is a sound foundation in both the pest species of concern as well as the biocontrol agent being released against it. In this talk we provide an overview of how recent problems have been addressed, the importance collections play into this narrative, and the emerging technologies being harnessed to increase the speed and accuracy of research. Taxa of interest include Platygastroidea, Cynipoidea, Ichneumonoidea and Chalcidoidea.
