As the demand for sustainable food and agricultural practices grows, commercial insect production continues to grow as a viable alternative to traditional livestock and plant-based proteins. The presentation will explore the Best Practice Guidelines for Commercial Insect Production in North America, produced and published by the North American Coalition for Insect Agriculture (NACIA). Topics discussed will include U.S. and Canadian regulatory requirements for insects as food and feed, good manufacturing practices for insect processing facilities, regulations governing insect diets and diet ingredients, insect rearing and harvesting activities, and processing methods. The presentation will provide attendees a deeper understanding of what is required to commercially rear and process insects for food and feed and includes general recommendations for operators to implement best practices.
