Research Entomologist USDA-ARS Pullman, Washington
As graduate students approach graduation from their program, they have to make the (sometimes) difficult decision on the next step in their career. This can often be a stressful period of time for students and early career professionals, especially with the variety of options that are open to entomologists. My presentation will share my experiences and journey from graduate school to the federal government and the trials and tribulations along the way. Not only will I discuss my transition from academia to government, but I'll also discuss my transition into a new (to me) field of study, going from studying mosquitoes to studying ticks. I will also present some considerations for students and ECPs to see if a federal career is the right path for them.
