APHIS-PPQ works with its cooperators on methods development and applied research to develop detection, control and management strategies for invasive plant pests affecting crops, forests and natural systems. Thru the lens of a naturalist, Hannah Nadel has worked throughout her career to support the needs of several plant pest programs with a particular focus on several invasive moth species. Her work to develop and improve rearing systems for European grapevine moth (EGVM, Lobesia botrana), spongy moth (SM, Lymantria dispar), box tree moth (BTM, Cydalima perspectalis) and other species were critical to support important program achievements including eradication (EGVM), IPM and regulatory treatments, classical biological control, detection methods, sterile insect technology and entomopathogen mass production (SM). By of way of describing PPQ program successes for several of these species in this presentation I will highlight the important contribution Hannah has made during her career.
