CEO National Pest Management Association Fairfax, Virginia
From our earliest years, we wonder, What will I do? Who will I Be? And too much time and energy is spent in angst over this question when often the opportunities are right in front of us. I spent my early child/teenage years believing I would go to law school…Be a Lawyer. Then when it mattered (final year of undergraduate degree) I found out what a lawyer really does and knew in my heart that it would not be me.
I have had many service jobs (primarily food & hospitality) throughout my career journey but it was my last stop that has had many turns, detours, pitfalls, and yes, climbing as I sought the answers to “What would I Be?” After 27 years climbing the ranks at NPMA, the National Pest Management Association, I am happy to tell you that I am on a lifelong journey to be the best I can be, where I am right now and where I can support those around me succeed. In the pest management industry, the key competencies employers are looking for is curiosity, people engagement skills, flexibility (because the only constant is change) and a learning mindset. This industry is full of so many different opportunities and sometimes a leap of faith is what it requires to realize, you can be successful in ways you never knew existed.
