Entomology plays an important role in addressing critical challenges in agriculture, horticulture, natural resources, public health and more. Extension programs serve as a vital bridge between scientific research and the public, extending the impact of entomology beyond academic circles by offering education and practical resources that directly benefit communities. Historically focused on rural agriculture, these programs have evolved to address a broader range of topics that promote sustainability, resilience, and quality of life in both rural and urban environments. However, effectively communicating scientific concepts to the public often requires creative approaches to ensure understanding and engagement. Beyond a traditional classroom setting, Extension programs can open the door to educational creativity, transforming science-based topics into entertainment that effectively engages and informs the public, leading to long-term behavior change. From farm tours to 4-H summer camps, pesticide continuing education to school enrichment programs, Extension programs implement edutainment to foster public awareness and understanding of insect-related issues, thereby empowering individuals and communities to make informed decisions that promote sustainability. This presentation will dive into the experiences of an early career entomologist that found her place in the world of Extension edutainment where she regularly works with the community as a vector for entomophilia.
