Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a critical, now cosmopolitan pest on corn or maize (Zea mays) worldwide. The performance of parasitic insects is important towards biological control of this pest. We collected fall armyworm larvae from maize fields in Cadereyta, Nuevo Leon (lowlands), and Saltillo, Coahuila (highlands), Mexico. In Cadereyta, two species of wasps were identified: the more abundant larval parasitoid Campoletis sonorensis (Ichneumonidae), followed by the egg-larva Chelonus insularis (Braconidae) and less abundant, the larvae-pupa parasitoids Winthemia sp. and Archytas sp., both Tachinidae. At Saltillo, we detected Ch. insularis and Euplectrus sp. (Eulophidae) almost exclusively. These results are a contribution to knowledge of natural parasitism of fall armyworm in northeastern Mexico, towards future studies on its biological control.
