The Environmental Impact quotient (EIQ) is a calculation developed in 1992 by the New York State IPM program at Cornell University that summarizes in one metric the potential pesticide risks for farm workers, consumers, and non-target organisms. The EIQ links hazard data (toxicity endpoints) with proxies of exposure (chemical properties and ranks) and pesticide use (Application rates) to give a score of potential risk. It has been widely used to evaluate pesticide risk reduction programs worldwide. Now, based on newly available pesticide exposure information and assessing the equation's functionality with an extensive data set of products, we propose new features for the EIQ. The changes include integrating application and formulation factors and redistributing the components' weight.
