Starting in late August of 2020, a standard grant was provided to the Don Chandler Entomological Collection (UNHC) to be used for the digitization of lepidopteran specimens via a Partner to Existing Networks (PEN) collaboration with the Lepidoptera of North America Thematic Collection Network (LepNet TCN). The aim of this collaboration was to allow archived lepidopteran specimens, including their label information, to be accessed remotely through the online database TaxonWorks, making these specimens more accessible to members of the public. Through the use of a student-made standard operating procedure, undergraduate students have been able to learn to use a macropod imaging system, as well as a novel cellphone-based imaging system to rapidly and accurately digitize specimens.
