Cerambycidae (a.k.a. longhorn beetles) are one of the most diverse beetle families, with over 36,000 described extant species worldwide. While higher level relationships within Chrysomeloidea have been extensively studied, relationships within Cerambycidae and the other cerambyciformes remain poorly understood. Using phylogenomic methods, we obtained DNA sequences from 599 protein-coding genes for representatives of all families of Chrysomeloidea as well as all eight subfamilies and most tribes of Cerambycidae for a total sampling of over 500 taxa. Assisted by novel bioinformatic techniques, we present a hitherto unseen glimpse into the evolution of the cerambyciformes. Most phylogenetic relationships enjoyed maximal statistical support, with our inferred higher relationships generally congruent with those reported in previous studies. Additionally, we explore the influence from substitution modeling, codon usage and taxa selection on the resulting tree.
